Slovenian Winter Experience
Duration: 8 days
The Julian Alps and the town of Bovec located in the upper Soca valley provide a spectacular backdrop for a different kind of winter break in one of the most beautiful parts of Western Europe. This trip combines some exciting winter activities including caving, sledging and tandem paragliding which are structured around an easy-paced itinerary and will prove an appealing option for those seeking a leisurely winter break with some added fun - on the snow, in the air and under ground. During the week you will also get the chance to go wine tasting and sample some of the culinary delights available in this alpine influenced region once the northern-most outpost of the former Yugoslavia.
Slovenia in winter really is a winter wonderland that sets it apart from the commercial hussle and bussle of other alpine regions and offers a natural innocence reminiscent of a long forgotten childhood from a bygone era...
Sledging by day and using head torches hurtling down from the lofty Mangart Saddle at night, tandem paragliding above Mount Kanin with incredible views to snow-capped Triglav and the surrounding peaks of the Julian Alps, spectacular views of the emerald green Soca River plus a subterranean caving experience will leave you with some abiding memories of Slovenia, its people and the culture of this naturally beautiful region.
Caving
Explore Mala Boka cave, a 1355m long cave complex 6km from Bovec, including some abseiling. No experience necessary!
Paragliding
Join the eagles and buzzards as you marvel at the spectacular aerial views of the Julian Alps soaring in silence through the clear blue sky more than 2500m above the Soca river valley flying from the lofty slopes of Mangart or Mount Kanin.
Sledging/Night Sledging
Whether by day or at night, experience the thrill of sledging down one of Slovenia's most beautiful mountains. This is an exciting but safe activity and a different way of discovering the natural winter delights of the area. By day take in the vistas from this magnificent mountain, or by night under a vast starry sky with only the moon and a head torch to light the way.
You will be staying in Hotel Alp on a half-board basis for 7 nights. The hotel is ideally located in the heart of the town of Bovec and is a modern 3 star hotel with a touch of the traditional. It has 103 comfortable rooms with 218 beds in total. All rooms are equipped with cable TV, telephone, hair dryer and some have a mini bar and balcony. The hotel has two restaurants where you can choose from a wide selection of dishes on the buffet table and enjoy pastries from the in-house patisserie on the terrace or in the Rest A Bar. For further relaxation after a busy day, the sauna awaits, where you can enjoy the new Finnish, Turkish and infrared saunas.
